Topic: The Knowledge-Based System ( KBS )


Question #3:


1. Describe or Define KBS.

Knowledge-Based System (KBS) as a computer system that is programmed to imitate human problem-solving by means of artificial intelligence and reference to a database of knowledge on a particular subject. It focuses on systems that uses knowledge-based techniques to support human decision, decision-making, learning and action.


2. Distinguish KBS from MIS.

Knowledge-Based Systems (KBS) focuses methods and algorithms for embedded agents to acquire, use and maintain symbolic knowledge about the world to achieve purposeful and goal-directed behavior. While, Management Information System is a subset of the overall internal controls of a business covering the application of people, documents, technologies and procedures by management accountants to solve business problems such as distinct a product, service or a business-wide strategy.


3. Illustrate (give examples) how KBS can improve company's competitive advantage and organizational performance.


Agents, KBS group focuses on methods and algorithms for embedded agents to acquire, use maintain symbolic knowledge and by computation on-line and on-board the agents. Autonomous robots are typical agents considered and software agents.
